Small Business Spotlight: Sang Viens of Lil Brow Wow
Each month, we highlight incredible entrepreneurs making an impact in the beauty industry. This month’s Small Business Spotlight shines on Sang Viens, the talented PMU artist behind Lil Brow Wow. With a passion for artistry and self-expression, Sang is transforming lives through permanent makeup (PMU) while building a strong local community of support and collaboration.
Meet Sang Viens: The Artist Behind Lil Brow Wow
For Sang, artistry has been a part of life since childhood. An expressive person at heart, she found the perfect career path in the permanent makeup industry.
“I’ve always been great at art since I was a child, so to be able to do that as a career in the beauty industry is something special. I love to look and feel beautiful myself, so to be able to do that for another person makes my job that much better.”
Her passion for beauty and creativity translates into every transformation she creates for her clients.
A Day in the Life of a PMU Artist and Small Business Owner
While her work may look glamorous on social media, Sang explains that running a PMU business is anything but simple. Her days are a mix of client transformations, content creation, and networking at events to build connections in the beauty community.
The days she spends with clients are her favorite:
“The transformations are incredible, and I love seeing how happy my clients are with their results.”
But she also dedicates time to researching new products and techniques, ensuring her skills are always sharp and up-to-date.
What Most People Don’t Realize About Running a Small Business
Behind the polished work and glowing results lies a lot of hard work. Sang points out that owning a business means wearing many hats:
-
Marketing and content creation
-
Answering client questions
-
Keeping certifications up to date
-
Managing inventory and cleanliness
-
Handling inspections and state fees
“It’s not a job where you clock in and out. You work all the time.”
This honesty reflects the dedication required to succeed as a small business owner in the beauty industry.
Creating a Relaxed and Relatable Client Experience
For many clients, getting permanent makeup can feel intimidating. That’s why Sang focuses on being both realistic and relatable during every appointment.
“A lot of my clients are scared, so I try to be funny but informative to ease their mind. I want them to see me as someone easy-going so they’re comfortable enough to speak to me about the truth instead of hiding behind it only to regret something later.”
Her approach builds trust and ensures that clients feel confident in their decisions.
Overcoming Perfectionism to Build Confidence
One of Sang’s biggest challenges was overcoming her own perfectionism. Having worked under someone who constantly nitpicked, she carried that pressure into her own career.
“I always thought I was never good enough. But when my clientele grew exponentially after moving to a new location, I realized no one is perfect. I just strive to do my best, and my clients see and feel that.”
This breakthrough allowed her to embrace her talent and focus on growth rather than self-doubt.
Staying Motivated Through Slow Seasons
Like many in the beauty industry, Sang experiences ups and downs with client bookings. During slower times, she stays motivated by staying busy.
“Sometimes I’ll think it’s me, but I have to remind myself it’s just the season and it will pass. I stay busy with creating content, practice, and researching new products or techniques.”
Her proactive mindset ensures she’s always prepared for her next busy season.
Why Supporting Small Businesses Matters
For Sang, small business support is about more than just individual success—it’s about building community.
“Supporting locally is important because businesses can refer clients to each other. When I moved to a new location, I attended networking events to promote myself and meet other entrepreneurs. Now, when a client is looking for something, I know who to refer, and I hope they do the same. It builds the community and the economy, and I want us all to succeed—even if we’re in the same field.”
This spirit of collaboration is what makes small businesses so vital to local growth.
The Theme Song of Lil Brow Wow
If Sang had to choose a theme song for her business, it would be “Show ’Em (What You’re Made Of)” by the Backstreet Boys—a perfect anthem for resilience, confidence, and proving yourself through hard work and passion.
