Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Mary Harcourt, inventor, and founder of CosmoGlo, located in Cedar Creek, TX, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am in the beauty industry. As a COVID pivot, when California closed my Los Angeles Lash Spa for nine months, I decided to put all my energy into my idea. CosmoGlo was born. We are quickly becoming the standard in luxury lighting in salons. Our customers are artists in the beauty industry: Tattooists, lash artists, brow artists, permanent make-up, skincare, etc. We supply modern lighting for spa treatment rooms.
Tell us about yourself
As a natural explorer, I always want to see what's around the corner. I have traveled 64 countries, and I hope to get to 100, but the time I'm 100! I learned early on that you can let fear stop you, or you can ignore it. So many people are held back in life or don't chase a dream because of fear. I speak around the country, encouraging people to get those ideas out of their heads and into a reality. Starting really is the secret to it all.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Having a patented product in 28 countries. I took the idea in my head, to a napkin sketch, all the way through reality. We are currently changing to luxury lighting in the beauty industry. It's extremely fulfilling to see people so happy with their purchases.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Trying to understand what's next on the horizon and how to keep it all moving forward.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Consistency is key! The personal touch is memorable. Be a good person, always be fair, and run your business with the same ideals.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
I love sharing my story. I think it inspires others to think about your ideas in your head. We all have them! If we would act on them more, we could change the world. Don't be afraid to start down that path.
